The Ration card is an important legal document that acts as a valid address and identity proof and allows economically disadvantaged citizens to access essential food and household commodities at subsidized prices.
It is an important document that every Indian should have as it is one of the most widely accepted proofs of residential address and status as a legal citizen of India. For people coming from economically disadvantaged backgrounds literally depends on this card as the possession and use of the card enables them to sustain themselves and their families by allowing them to access the basic commodities required for day-to-day survival.
Keeping in mind the document’s importance, the government issues a duplicate ration card under two circumstances: First, when the card has been lost and second when the document has been damaged too much and cannot be used anymore. This accounts for cases of misplacement, loss, theft and damage, such as tears, waterlogging, fire damage, etc. Worn out ration cards can also be replaced by the state Food and civil supply office.
