There is hardly any household that does not have ceiling fans. But pedestal fans are table fans that are opted for when you are looking for some extra breeze and circulation of air without having to spend too much on energy costs by using air conditioners all the time. It is also a go green option. Depending on the purpose for which the fan would be used, you may choose a table fan or a pedestal fan. It is important to be aware of these fans and their pro’s and con’s to make the right choice.
Difference between pedestal fans and table fans
The basic difference between a pedestal fan and a table fan is that the pedestal fan has a long stand on which the detachable fan is attached to it. The table fans have a stand, but they feature a smaller stand. The other differences include:
Weight- The pedestal fans are usually light in weight. This makes it easier for the fans to be shifted from one place to another. The long stand that they feature would also be of a detachable type. The table fans, on the other hand, are quite heavy.
Function– Pedestal fans are somewhat versatile in that they can be moved around wherever it is wanted, and the airflow is quite good, ensuring the circulation of air in the place where it is placed without much effort on your part. The table fan, on the other hand, can provide air for just one person who is in front of it. That is why pedestal fans are ideal for events and big rooms, while a table fan is suitable only for use by a single person.
Ease of use– The pedestal fans have a long stand while the table fans have a short stand. The pedestal fans, however, are free-standing while the table fan has to be placed on a table. This can be a limiting factor when it comes to the use of the fan.
The working principle
There is a vast difference in the working principle of the two types of fans. In a table fan, you have a single-phase induction motor. When you put on the switch, the motor starts functioning, and the blade starts rotating. Whereas, in the pedestal fan, an electromagnetic field is created between the two main parts of the fan- the rotor and the stator. It is owing to the electrical potential. This, in turn, causes the rotor to spin, and powers the fan by spinning the blades and circulating airflow.
This goes on to show that both of the fans could be helpful as far as power consumption and saving is concerned but, depending on whether it is to be used for a single person or to circulate air in a large room or event or gathering, you can choose table fan or pedestal fan. Both the fans can ensure comfort to the user or users but at the same time reduce energy costs as well.
