College basketball has been unpredictable this season, and there are some interesting good players in this sport every single season. The Top 25 rankings in the NCAA matter to some teams; for some teams, it doesn’t matter to them.
Currently, the Purdue Boilermakers are the currently ranked number one team in the nation, and the UCONN Huskies are the currently ranked number two team in the nation. College basketball picks are always an unpredictable year in and year out regarding March Madness. Who are some of the top college basketball players in the nation this season?
1. Zach Edey, Center, Purdue Boilermakers
Zach Edey is a junior at Purdue and is one of the main reasons the Boilermakers are the number-one ranked team in the nation. Edey could be the National Player Of the Year in college basketball. He makes this basketball go, and they are built differently this season because of him.
In 11 games played so far this season, he is averaging 22.6 PPG, 13.9 RPG, and 1.0 APG. Zach Edey also shoots 62.9% from the field, which is pretty good for a big man. This could be the year that Purdue wins a National Championship.
2. Drew Timme, Forward, Gonzaga Bulldogs
Drew Timme is a senior at Gonzaga and is one of the main reasons Gonzaga has ranked in the Top 25 again this season. The Bulldogs don’t feel like a dominant basketball team, but they will still have respect because of their name. Timme is averaging 22.1 PPG, 8.3 RPG, and 3.3 APG.
Without him, they would be just an average basketball team at best. He is also shooting 63.7% from the field so far this season. For college basketball predictions, they have the Gonzaga Bulldogs as a number three seed for the 2023 NCAA Tournament. Time is going to tell about that also.
3. Jalen Wilson, Forward, Kansas Jayhawks
Jalen Wilson is a junior at Kansas. They are one of the top teams in the country. The Jayhawks are preparing for another deep NCAA Tournament run this year. The Kansas Jayhawks won it a season ago against the North Carolina Tar Heels. Kansas is looking to be the first team to go back-to-back since the Florida Gators in 2006-2007.
It has also been a while since a team got past the second round of the NCAA Tournament after winning it all the previous season. Wilson is averaging 21.1 PPG, 9.0 RPG, and 2.9 APG so far this season. He is also shooting 42.2% from the field. College basketball picks today have Kansas as one of the betting favorites to win it all next season because of Jalen Wilson and because of having another deep roster.
4. Adama Sanogo, Forward, UCONN Huskies
The UCONN Huskies are back on the map again this season and are currently the 2nd ranked team in the nation. They have their sights set on the number one seed come NCAA Tournament time. UCONN feels like this is their best team since winning it all in 2014 against the Kentucky Wildcats.
One of the reasons why the Huskies are in this prime position is because of their defense and because of junior Adama Sanogo. Sanogo is averaging 18.6 PPG, 7.2 RPG, 1.3 APG, 0.7 BPG, and 1.2 SPG this season for UCONN. He is one of the most important players on this basketball team, and they will need him for the Big East Conference play and beyond.
5. Oscar Tshiebwe, Forward, Kentucky Wildcats
The Kentucky Wildcats have a shot at winning this season because of Oscar Tshiebwe. He is a senior at the school. Tshiebwe decided to come back this season after flaming out in the NCAA Tournament last season against the #15 seed Saint Peters Peacocks. Oscar Tshiebwe hoped he learned that lesson and they could make a run.
Kentucky hasn’t won it all since the 2012 season against the Kansas Jayhawks and has not been to a Final Four since 2015, where they were undefeated until they lost to the Wisconsin Badgers. Oscar Tshiebwe is averaging 15.0 PPG, 13.0 RPG, and 1.7 APG this season. He could be one of the candidates potential to win the SEC Player of the Year Award.
